The Roots have collaborated with a well-documented list of performers, the most recent of which is the incomparable Elvis Costello. Their project, Wise Up Ghost, is set to release next week, but before then fans can hear it in full through a live stream courtesy of NPR.

What began as a chance encounter at the Jimmy Fallon show turned into a working relationship that ultimately churned out 12 tracks with a funky 70’s vibe. So far the musical collective have delivered just one worthy sampling called “Walk Us Uptown.” The cut is driven by ?uestlove’s sharp drumming and a captivating melody set off by a distinct bass line.

Wise Up Ghost will be in stores on September 17 via Blue Note Records. Scroll below to find a link to NPR’s album stream. Give us your thoughts in the comments.
