While rappers and the rapper-affiliated are still making it rain with tropical showers of money, one man in Minnesota decided to get into the holiday spirit and cast snow flurries of currency.
Serve Vorobyov didn’t have the greatest year in 2013 and he wanted to make sure his fellow Minnesotans didn’t befall the same fate as they Christmas shopped at the Mall of America. As a choir performed “Let It Snow” on the ground level, Vorobyov stood on the fourth floor and sprinkled down $1,000 in one dollar bills.
Most definitely a metaphor realized in the flesh. The local authorities saw differently, however.
Bloomington police did not share his vision of yuletide cheer. They arrested him and charged him with disorderly conduct.
A Mall of America spokesperson said his antics could have caused a major disturbance and someone could have been hurt.
“People think it’s an evil number, I thought it was supposed to be a lucky number,” he said on a YouTube vlog explaining the event. “I went through a horrible divorce, and she even took the cat and won’t tell me where it is. I thought I would just spread some holiday cheer … pay it forward.”
“I think all the people down there enjoyed it,” Serge said.
It never paid off to be Robin Hood in any generation. Watch the video of fan-made footage from the cash flow incident and check out Vorobyov’s aforementioned explanation on the next page.
