Tyler, The Creator’s New Album Takes Top Billboard 200 Spot

Just a few days after its announcement, Tyler, The Creator’s latest album Don’t Tap The Glass debuts in the No. 1 slot on Billboard’s 200 Albums chart. The ranking makes it the fourth straight album for the artist, with Chromakopia being released last year, Call Me If You Get Lost in 2021 and Igor in 2019.
Tyler, The Creator teased the album on social media prior to his announcement of its release on July 18, with the set release date taking place the following Monday (July 21). The album made an off-cycle debut and the data for the rankings was based off of four days’ tracking from Luminate, which covers sales from Friday to Tuesday.
A closer look shows that more than half of the first week’s activities is due to album sales, which clocked in at 128,000 units composed of five physical offerings from the rapper’s official website. They consisted of a vinyl LP, CD and three deluxe boxed sets containing a piece of branded clothing and a copy of the CD. The physical copies had an extra bonus track, the digital copies for sale and streaming have 10 tracks.
Tyler, The Creator is currently on a mini-run of pop-up dance parties and concerts promoting the new album, having had performances in Brooklyn and Los Angeles last week. The album’s first video, “Stop Playin’ With Me,” featuring Clipse, also dropped shortly after the album’s release. So far, fans have praised it for its aesthetic going back to the early days of rap, exemplified by Tyler’s sporting of Cazal-like glasses, heavy rope gold chains and a red tracksuit.
Don’t Tap The Glass became the second off-cycle release to grab the No. 1 spot in a row after JACKBOYS 2, the album by Travis Scott and Don Toliver, Sheck Wes along with others on the Cactus Jack Records label formed by Scott.
