SSL Mixing Machine Used By Dr. Dre Sells For A Record $165,000
Ken Hively / Dr. Dre

A piece of Hip-Hop history belonging to Dr. Dre has sold for a record amount of money.

The SSL 4000 G+ mixing console used by the legendary super producer/rapper Dr. Dre to craft hits for the likes of Kendrick Lamar, JAY-Z, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Gwen Stefani, Snoop Dogg, and himself was auctioned off for $165,000, which is now the record for a hip-hop instrument or studio item.

According to Realest, the authentication and memorabilia platform that auctioned off the console, RZA’s E-mu SP-1200 drum machine, which was used to make the Wu-Tang Clan’s iconic 1993 debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), was the previous record holder, selling for $69,000 in 2023.

Who Put Down The Winning Bid On SSL 4000 G+ Mixing Console

As of right now, the SSL 4000 G+ mixing console is sitting in the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles in an exhibit, but soon will be in the hands of its new owner, cultural collector Ryan Zurrer, who announced on X that he now owns it and will be on public display in the Hip-Hop Museum.

“Still the same OG, but low key.

“Grateful to pick up the signature instrument that Dre took the time to perfect the beat… brought the oldies, taught you to smoke trees… still DRE.

“This iconic part of hip-hop history will be available to the public (at the Hip Hop Museum)—because it ain’t no fun if the homies can’t have none,” Zurrer wrote in his post on X.

The mixing console was a part of the Realest’s “Straight Outta The West Coast Hip-Hop” auction, which featured other items from DJ Yella, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, and others.
