Few rappers hold dear to signature customs as Yelawolf does his “Box Chevy” series. Going into his Shady Records sophomore effort, Love Story, it’s all affection and admiration for his favorite car as the first single and the fifth “Box Chevy” are one in the same.
At this point, the Slumerican is all but a virtuoso when it comes to riding music and the ambient keys that cold start the record combined with the thumping drum patterns make this an immediate winner from the first turn of the ignition.
Despite releasing a couple of full-length mixtapes in the past year, Yelawolf hasn’t seen a spike in his rap stock since he dropped his debut album, Radioactive in 2010. Four long years later, he’s been more visible for battling it out with the race-baiting Lord Jamar and forgetting that his Southern roots could be considered offensive to most outside of the Alabama atmosphere.
everybody likes a good comeback story, though. If Love Story (which has yet to develop a release date) can propel Mr. Trunk Muzik’s name back into the forefront with his other Caucasian competition, then let it be.
Stream the new single below and determine if he’s off to a great start or needs to switch his gears.
