MC, author and juice bar entrepreneur Styles P took a day off from The LOX tour and checked in with his faithful fans in a Reddit conversation.
With a new solo album due out on April 29, 2014, it’s hard to imagine anything Styles has to say apart from music would be less than interesting. Au contraire, the upcoming release of Phantom and The Ghost gave rise to a slew of other interesting topics. This ultimately led to the rapper turning various corners in his lengthy online chat, revealing some rather engrossing facts about the man born David Styles.

Styles says being a gangster isn’t just a “street” thing.
According to The Lox member: “The concept of ‘gangster’ is not just a ‘street’ thing, it’s a mind state of what you can do. A gentleman is also a gangster, they’re just in a different type of suit. Gangsters came different; they came in suits, nice whips, business endeavors and things of that nature. Being a gentleman gets you further in life, but because you weren’t gang-banging doesn’t make you any less of a gangster. Every man has a gangster and a gentleman in them.”

Styles is of South African descent.
And he really wants to visit the motherland: “I’m south african so it would mean a lot to me to go there.”

And wants to set up a contest to prove it: “If I could, and it was legal I’d set up a smoke contest with all the renowned smokers of the world, and I guarantee i’d leave with the belt. Snoop, wiz, willie nelson, cheech and chong.”

Which explains his Juices For Life enterprise in the Bronx: “Kiss is my partner at the new juice bar.”
Styles wanted to attend Harvard University.
A student at Harvard University asked if the rapper was interested in speaking on campus, to which Styles responded, “Most definitely. I wanted to go to Harvard.”
Styles loves white people ’80s music.
“I f*ck with white people 80s music. Oh, and Adele & Amy Winehouse tough.”
