It is the most smallest things that tend to make the biggest impact on human life and such is the case for the Rubik’s Cube.
In 1974, a Hungarian professor of architecture by the name of ErnÅ‘ Rubik twisted his mind enough to create a puzzle that took him weeks to solve his own self. According to Washington Post, Rubik said “It was wonderful to see how, after only a few turns, the colors became mixed, apparently in random fashion. It was tremendously satisfying to watch this color parade.”
Today, the Internet has been buzzing with the renewed interest in the squared delight as it celebrates its 40th birthday. Google even went as far as to allow users to test their brain power with a virtual block free of charge.
With an invention as influential and witty as the Rubik’s Cube, it was only fitting that its name would come up in rap songs from MCs who prided themselves as being as cerebral as the Hungarian inventor.
Continue on through the list to see Hip-Hop Wired’s gift to the original color twister to hear eight songs that insert the Cube into its similes and metaphors. Rap lyrics can sometimes be puzzles within the lines that they are written in.

Kendrick Lamar ft. Jay Rock – “I Do This”
“Confuse ’em like a Rubix/Cube when I roll up/Ok, Subway, bread like some cold cuts”
Rizock’s lyrics were still being slept on back when he was bigger than K. Dot.
Ghostface Killah – “Cobra Clutch”
“Cause it’s law/Order today, we pay dues/New tomorrow’s, Rubik’s Cube money in a tube”
If there’s any rapper who liken their raps to the cubed puzzle, if would undoubtedly be Ghostdini.
Birdman ft. Lil Wayne – “Fire Flame (Remix)”
“If these n****s dogs/I’m animal cruelty/Don’t f**k with me at all/’Cause I’m twisted like an Arubik’s/Cube.”
Proper grammar isn’t necessary to pull off a metaphor. Weezy freaked it.
Eminem – “Drug Ballad”
“In third grade, all I used to do/Was sniff glue through a tube and play Rubik’s Cube”
That’s one productive way to pass the time away, no?
Canibus – “Buckingham Palace”
“Don’t ever get it confused, f****g with Canibus/The human Rubix Cube like you got something to prove.”
Unfortunately MC Bus’ skill set wasn’t as multi-layered as that rhyme.
Royce Da 5’9″ ft. Travis Barker – “Legendary”
“Don’t take me light or play me like we two of the same/God melted the Rubik’s Cube into fluid and threw it into my intuitive brain.”
The true meaning of liquid swords. GZA eat your heart out.
Jay-Z – “Addicted To The Game”
“I’m just an addict addicted to music/Thoughts is sporadic I got to unconfuse it/Sort of like a Rubik’s Cube is/Every album’s a color/But I fuck up the other…color”
Yep. Hova has a very colorful catalog to prove it.
Nas – “2nd Childhood”
“As a music dude, I mastered this Rubik’s Cube/Godzilla, fought Gargantua, eyes glued to the tube”
For a rapper with no Grammy Awards and not being renown for their radio hits, it’s a safe assumption to say Nas is correct.
