Numbers never tell any lies and the box-office and DVD tally from Kevin Hart and Ice Cube’s Ride Along all but automatically made it eligible for a sequel.

Director Tim Story squeezed $153 million out of a $25 million budget and Universal Pictures couldn’t have been more pleased. It also broke the MLK box-office record in ticket sales, proving (along with The Best Man Holiday) that movies geared towards African-Americans have a place on the blockbuster circuit.

The original film only took 35 days to film from start to finish and the crew has already begun to get to work on Ride Along 2.

Hart was fast with the Instagram updates in between takes and uploaded a photo with his character wearing some pretty outrageous attire.

“Day 1 couldn’t of went better…the chemistry that me & @icecube have is dope as hell….We picked up right where we left off. #ridealong2 #BiggerAndBetter #ActionComedy #DontAskAboutMyOutFit #MyCharactersTakesFashionRisk,” he exclaimed.

Hart is coming off a strong showing in theater from last month’s Think Like a Man Too, which pulled in $58 million since its release.

Cube hasn’t been slacking since the January drop on Ride Along, either. He recently starred alongside Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in 22 Jump Street, making more than $206 million in box-office ducats. He has also been aligning all the stars for the upcoming N.W.A biopic.

The age of the sequel is here to stay, without a doubt.
