In a few weeks time, Wiz Khalifa, who’s currently on the “Under The Influence of Music” tour, will debut his third studio album Blacc Hollywood. But somewhere in his busy schedule, the rapper found time to perform at an intimate Sirius XM and Shade 45-sponsored show at Webster Hall in New York City last night (August 4).
The Taylor Gang rapper invaded the venue’s much tinier annex, The Studio. Leaving nothing to chance, Wiz and his four man band, including DJ Bonics, pleased fans by performing an assortment of hits from his catalog. From early favorites like “Mezmorized” from his breakout mixtape, Kush & Orange Juice, to his knocking, Detail-produced club record “We Dem Boyz,” the Pittsburgh native kept energy high and attendees engaged.
But not without a little dancing and a lot more Mary Jane in tow.
Aside from yesterday’s show, Wiz has more intricate plans to create engagement around his LP in advance of its release. An example is a contest he’s set in place with the help of Groupon. Among the prizes are front-section tickets for the rap star’s album release show in Morrison, Colo. on August 19 (the day the project hits retailers), a round-trip flight, and lodging.
