The off-the-field unrest in the NFL is causing some of its trusty sponsors to sweat bullets and Anheuser-Busch took it upon themselves to fire off the first shot.
The company behind Budweiser and Busch played “concerned relative” to the NFL’s recent domestic issues, namely implying the cases of Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson.
“We are not yet satisfied with the league’s handling of behaviors that so clearly go against our own company culture and moral code,” Anheuser-Busch said in a released statement. “We have shared our concerns and expectations with the league.”
According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, Anheuser-Busch has been the league’s exclusive beer advertiser for the 28 years straight and sold $15 billion worth of beer in the past year. Money talks and the NFL took heed their powerful voice.
None of this mattered to All-Pro Houston Texans running back Arian Foster and he ripped the beer company a new tap for thinking their product was somewhat an authoritative voice in society.
Foster is noted for his healthy lifestyle and even went on to say that domestic violence and alcohol are “damn near synonymous.” An interesting point, seeing that Ray Rice admitted he was so far gone when he gave his then-fiancée a Ryu Dragon Punch.
