On this fine Friday afternoon, Hip-Hop Wired presents a new, scenario-based series called IAPW (In a Perfect World), in which we’ll detail topics we wish were facts. Our inaugural entry details 15 tracks produced by The Alchemist that would be hits, IAPW.
Alchemist’s involvement in the song above (Earl Sweatshirt’s “45”) sparked the idea. Considering that Odd Future’s lack of radio presence (essential to making records a hit) caused the crew to create their own station all together, we doubt if the tune will ever chart. But that’s where yours truly comes in, as we listed 15 Alchemist-produced records worthy of a hit tag.
Listen after the jump and let your feelings be known in the comments.

Rick Ross & Meek Mill – “Perfectionist”
This track is about as commercially appealing as any on this list. You mean to tell us that the combo of Ricky Rozay and Meek couldn’t make a major ripple?
Curren$y ft. Freddie Gibbs – “Scottie Pippen”
The flawless EP that is Covert Coup featured this hard hitting cut. And justifiably so. Why didn’t radio pick this up again?
Styles P ft. Floetry – “I’m Black”
Styles penned a new Black national anthem and most absolutely slept on it. Sad story.
Nas – “No Idea’s Original”
Nasty Nas reincarnate stepped into the booth the day this song was recorded. It’s appearance on the under promoted album, The Lost Tapes, probably had something to do with it not flourishing.
Jadakiss – “Still Feel Me”
Alchemist and Kiss–a rapper who’s had radio success–have undeniable chemistry. The LOX rapper spitting that real talk should have made ripples.
ScHoolboy Q – “My Homie”
What Quincy does to this track is absolutely criminal. That’s probably why his compadre ratted on him. Listen above for clarity.
Raekwon – “Surgical Gloves”
As aptly titled a track in The Chef’s catalog, we’re sure the veteran MC wore a matching apron in the booth while delivering this gem.
Mobb Deep ft. Kool G Rap – “The Realest”
Not much needs to be said about the song above, except for a simple instruction: press play and get promptly greeted by bars. Ironically, 50 Cent and Paul Wall’s remix got some love on radio. Go figure.
Prodigy & The Alchemist – “Nickel And A Nail”
Prodigy and Alchemist’s Return of the Mac is widely heralded, with many fans considering it to be a classic. Yet no songs made it to radio? Our favorite is above.
Action Bronson & The Alchemist ft. Evidence – “B*tch I Deserve You”
The world wasn’t exactly privy to Bronsolino’s large personality when he and Alc released Rare Chandeliers. That’s unfortunate, because a song like this could
Fabolous – “Lullaby”
Loso was a radio darling around this time. If he was ambitious, he would have gotten this Alchemist-produced cut into rotation.
Durag Dynasty (Planet Asia, Tri-State, Killer Ben) ft. Iman Thug – “Goon Call”
The aggressive production on this track can be best described as sensory overload. And that’s just what radio could use to break its monotonous format.
Prodigy – “Veteran’s Memorial 2”
P’s H.N.I.C. 2 albums is one of the more slept on project in the Hip-Hop cannon. Because radio was absolutely dismal around this time, a song like “Veteran’s Memorial 2” had no chance of thriving. It would have been nice to see, though.
Dilated Peoples – “The Marathon”
The Left Coast trio managed to gain some radio success with the Kanye West-produced “This Way.” But how dope would it have been to hear Evidence and Rakaa bring that west side bounce to the airwaves?
Gangrene (Hooligan Al aka The Alchemist & Oh Knuckle Old Belt Buckle aka Oh No) & Roc Marciano – “Sewer Gravy”
Alchemist brought piercing horns to the party, as he, Oh No and Marciano waxed poetics. It sound quite beautiful, don’t you agree?
