Turn down for what? Let’s say staying alive and being able to earn a living, for starters.
The “Pookie”-inspired, dopehead caricatures on television elicit laughs until it’s someone you look up to on the wrong end of a substance abuse issue. Hats off to these 13 real life celebrity rehab cases for attempting to get help kicking the habit before it kicked them.

Mariah Carey
That uncharacteristically turnt episode that found Mariah almost stripping on Total Request Live was quickly followed by the requisite trip to rehab for an “emotional and physical breakdown” in 2001. Either the pressure really got heavy or someone’s publicist was on their job.
Stevie J
Has there been a more epic fall from grace than Stevie J going from producing hits Puff Daddy, Jay Z, and Jodeci to flaming out on Love & Hip-Hop? Steebie was allegedly ordered to rehab after getting his Dr. Greenthumb on and being in love with the coco.
Chris Brown
Part of Brown’s lengthy probation involved hitting a Malibu rehab clinic and seeing a court-ordered psychiatrist twice a week.
Maia Campbell
Man, former In The House actress Maia Campbell was really going through it. Those WorldStar videos were painful to watch. She was hit with a combo of drug abuse and mental illness that it took several stints in rehab, a renewed commitment to her faith, and maybe a little coaching from Iyanla Vanzant to beat.
Eminem
The pill popping image that propelled Marshall Mathers to stardom wasn’t just some gimmick. Shady almost overdosed on Vicodin, Valium, and Ambien before getting clean during a second stint in rehab.
Faith Evans
As part of their 2004 plea deal, both Faith Evans and Todd Russaw had to complete a 13-week rehabilitation program for drug possession. They were booked on charges of possession of cocaine and marijuana.
Nick Gordon
Few train wrecks were as quick and explosive as Nick Gordon’s. Within about a month he was beefing with his family, blabbering on Dr. Phil’s couch, and taking that long walk into a rehab facility.
Chief Keef
It’s hard to say no one saw this coming considering he had a single called “Hate Being Sober.”
Eva Mendes
Believe it or not, Eva Mendes did a stint in Utah’s fame Cirque Lodge back in 2008.
Naomi Campbell
After allegedly collapsing during a 1999 photo shoot, Campbell checked herself into rehab. Unlike other cases of celebrity turn up, she said she was using alcohol and drugs to cope with the loss of close friends such as Gianni Versace.
Johnny Manziel
Cleveland Browns rookie QB and Drake Stan had to put himself on timeout in February when he went from Top SZN to turn up season a few too many times. Hopefully he wasn’t hanging out with Josh Gordon.
Michelle Rodriguez
If it seemed like Fast & Furious actress Michelle Rodriguez and former Disney star Zac Effron were a weird pair, it may be because they met in a treatment facility. That was just one instance of the turn up, as Rodriguez also did four days in jail back in 2006 for a DUI.
Jon Hamm
Prior to the premiere of the final seven episodes of Mad Men, Jon Hamm’s rep confirmed the 44-year-old actor completed 30 days in a treatment facility. You can begin your Don Draper jokes now.
