Kurtis Blow and Busy Bee’s DJ, Kool DJ AJ, died yesterday, September 9 of unknown reasons. The Bronx native was instrumental in bringing scratching to the forefront of the culture, thanks to his 1982 single “That’s The Joint” and work on Kurtis Blow’s self-titled album the following year. He also broke Blow’s breakout single “Christmas Rappin” in 1979.
Blow was the first to break the news of his longtime friend and the rest of the O.G. Hip-Hop community followed suit.
