The journalism world was rocked by the news that rising star Michael Feeney, a former reporter who worked for the New York Daily News, died over the weekend. Feeny, who was just about to start a new gig with CNN, was 32.
Feeney, a native of Teaneck, N.J., was a member of the Daily News staff in 2009 covering the night shift and Harlem beats before expanding into culture and entertainment. His hard work paid off, leading to him being named the Emerging Journalist of The Year in 2010 by the National Association of Black Journalists. The following year, Feeney was named as president of the NABJ’s New York chapter.
The Delaware State University graduate was set to begin covering the entertainment beat for the CNN network and was set to move to Atlanta. Feeney passed away due to complications related to a staph infection of his kidneys. The Daily News wrote a glowing piece remembering their colleague and friend.
Rest powerfully, Michael Feeney.
On the following page is a collection of photos from Feeny’s Instagram account showing him in shining his preferred element.
