Perceived Hip Hop public enemy #1 Lil Yachty has taken offense to Anderson. Paak’s nameless tweet about new artists being too “cocky” and not respecting Hip-Hop’s history.
To catch you up, Lil Yachty has be making fans and enemies at an almost equal rate. If it’s not the quality of his music that is upsetting “real Hip Hop” heads, it’s the statements he makes in interviews about his relation to Hip-Hop that was made before he was born or started rapping. His latest being that he couldn’t name five 2Pac or Biggie songs.
Of course the statement set off a storm on Twitter with plenty of fans, DJs and influencers pitching in their two cents. Anderson. Paak seemed to be offering his opinion on Yachty’s attitude as well.

While Paak did not “@” Yachty or anyone else in the tweet, many assumed that it was a response to Yachty, including Yachty himself.
First, Yachty retweeted Paak and added an emoji questioning the tweet.
Then he went on to ask why people feel like he has to know or like any kind of music in order to be considered a part of the culture.
While there is no “handout” it’s always been an unwritten rule that you should know your history. Maybe Yachty’s history starts with Kanye West?
