Concerned about the welfare of their daughter, Vanessa suggests a job opening to him, Earn replies, “I gonna become somebody you hate at a job like that.” She insults him, flippantly. “Well you’re doing that already being a rapper is something a high school kid wants to do.” They exchange another couple of hurtful digs and by the night’s end, after all that finagling just to take Vanessa out on a date, Earn calls his card in as stolen.
