J. Cole‘s “False Prophets” has Kanye West in the studio with Pete Rock and Wale rapping great again. Can he work his magic with these MCs?

J. Cole’s “False Prophets” wasn’t so much of a diss track as it was an honest observation. The mellow beat matched with J. Cole never raising his tone above his inside voice made it perhaps the calmest calling out in Hip-Hop history. While he didn’t call out anybody by name, he didn’t call anyone out of their name either.

Which is probably the reason why the two people that are suspected of being the subject of his quiet wrath have yet to respond with venom of their own. All we do know is is that in the time since the track surfaced, we’ve seen reports saying that Kanye West, who once referred to himself as the “new version of Pete Rock,” has been working with Pete Rock himself working on new music. We have also seen Mr. Folarin drop two tracks with him sounding the hungriest he’s been in years.

If J. Cole calling you out can lead to this kind of work, imagine if he pointed his lyrics at these rappers?

Meek Mill

It’s been a long time since Meek Mill gave us “that feeling.” You know, that feeling you had the first time you hear “I’ma Boss.” That feeling you got when he screamed “HOLD UP WAIT A MINUTE” at the halfway mark of “Dreams & Nightmares.” Nowadays, Meek is mostly known for being on the losing end of his battle with Drake, the funny-looking end of his battle royale with The Game and Beanie Sigel and wifey end of his relationship with Nicki Minaj. Maybe a Cole callout can bring “that feeling” back to Meek Mill.

Speaking of The Game, he is undoubtedly one the best rappers we’ve ever seen and his track record and catalog proves that. But it seems like every time you want to start rooting for him he does something silly. Since he graduated from the 50 Cent/G-Unit school of using beef to sell records, we shouldn’t be surprised when he goes around picking fights. But posting d*ck pics on the internet, on purpose, made it hard [pause] for even some of his biggest [pause] fans to defend him. Then, he went and started this whole Meek Mill thing right after he did all of that work trying to spread peace in the streets after this summer’s rash of police shootings and riots. Which one is it Game? Peace or war?

Ab-Soul already beat Cole to the punch, but Jay could probably use some more calling out. Dude was supposed to be the rap messiah that changed the game and set the new bar. But in the 10 years that we’ve known of him as a rapper, we’ve yet to get a proper album from him. That’s less than an one hot album every 10 year average…LAAAAAAME!
