HipHopWired: Tell me a little bit about how you got your start.

DJ Deez: I started DJing around 10. My uncle’s club called the High Rollers, and an old head DJ called Nick Nice. I was rolling with him at graduation parties and local clubs. I started DJing at bigger parties when I was 15, hooked up with Fab Five entertainment when I was 16 and after that it was history. I’m rocking with them real heavy.

HipHopWired: Is that then how you hooked up with Wiz [Khalifa]? I heard you did his Star Power mixtape.

DJ Deez: It is. They were doing his street team, Barry and Ifenyi put my name out there. So we were already affiliated through certain people and in ’06 me and him started working together. We did a small college run when he was still with Warner Bros. We were heavy in L.A. and then we dropped the Star Power mixtape and we were on the road for a couple more years.

HipHopWired: Are you still affiliated with Wiz?

DJ Deez: We’re still cool. That’s still my man, I got much respect for Wiz. I’m not his DJ.

HipHopWired: What do you think about what he’s doing right now? With his whole deal with Atlantic?

DJ Deez: He always put in so much hard work to get where he’s at. I always felt it was gonna be bigger than what it was. He works hard, that’s one thing about Wiz. He’s constantly writing, constantly in the studio. Rostrum Records, they gave him a big push, they put a lot on for Pittsburgh.

HipHopWired: Back to you though, who are some people you’ve worked with? I noticed last night you had a little Twitter beef with someone trying to say you haven’t worked with that many artists. So set the record straight, who are some artists you’ve worked with?

DJ Deez: I wouldn’t even call that Twitter beef…

HipHopWired: What would you call it?

DJ Deez: I’d call it just dudes trying to get on. I’m not into beef at all. I’ve worked with any artists that’s really out there in Pittsburgh; S.Money, Boaz, Lavish, Hardcore Entertainment….anyone that ever did anything in Pittsburgh I’ve worked with. Mickey Boss, Mac Miller…I Fawk with everybody. I show love to everybody. I’m not into dudes trying to get a name because they’re trying to say some Shyte, it’s all irrelevant. My track record’s long…I’m only 22 years old but I’ve been doing this a long time. I got tapes and everything to prove myself.

HipHopWired: Back to you though, what’s the latest thing you’re working on? Any mixtapes?

DJ Deez: I got this artist named Jariell. We put out a mixtape last year and I put out a mixtape called Pittsburgh Versus The Industry. It’s local artists versus any big song you might hear out from the industry. Be on the lookout for those.

HipHopWired: So overall in 2010, what’s your goal for the year?

DJ Deez: In 2010 I’m gonna work with more artists outside of Pittsburgh. I got a long stretch all the way out to Canada, I got  a new guy I’m starting to work with down in Texas. It’s all love this way, I’m trying to show love to everybody. Any artists that’s out here really grinding, come work with me. As long as your music is up to date and you’re not out here just calling yourself a rapper, come Fawk with me.

HipHopWired: Do you have any last words? Any contact info you wanna leave?

DJ Deez: Hit me up  DieselSouthPaw@gmail.com Hit me up on my twitter I’m verified @DeeJayDeez. Follow me. South Paw is my group, we out here man. We got a lot coming.
