Last week, we brought you the 10 smartest cities in America based on the U.S. Census Bureau’s data on percentage of the population with college degrees.
Washington D.C. was ranked the smartest ‘city’ in America with 47.3% of the population 25 or older obtaining their bachelor’s.
This week, let’s look at the 10 cities that are lacking, from the Midwest to the South and the West Coast, check out America’s 10 dumbest cities below.
The results may surprise you…
10.) Cleveland
Cleveland comes in at number 10 with 26.9% of the population college educated. Residents can attend the “Forest City’s” local schools including Case Western Reserve University and the University of Cleveland.
9.) Orlando
The home to Mickey and Minnie Mouse comes in at #9 with only 26.6% of the population obtaining bachelor’s degrees. The Orlando metropolitan area has a population of 2,082,628 and it is the 27th largest metropolitan area in the United States.
8.) Detroit
Detroit is considered the 8th “Dumbest City In America” with only 26.3% of the population obtaining degrees. Detroit also ranked highly on the list of most dangerous cities in America and is considered the poorest city in the country.
7.) New Orleans
Although known for lavish Mardi Gras celebrations on Bourbon Street, New Orleans is considered one of the dumbest cities in America.
Obviously still struggling from the adverse effects of Katrina, only 26.2 % of the population has college degrees.
New Orleans however is often commended for being one of the “most unique” cities in America.
6.) Louisville, KY
Louisville is considered the 6th dumbest city in the country with 24.9% of the population college educated. The home to the Kentucky Derby has been previously ranked however as one of the 10 safest large cities in the U.S.
5.) San Antonio, TX
San Antonio ranks number 5 with 24.8% of the population obtaining degrees. This Texas town is the seventh largest city in the U.S. with an estimated population of 1.4 million. It is also the home to a number of schools including The University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas A&M University–San Antonio, and the Alamo Community College District and St. Mary’s University—schools the population is obviously not attending.
4.) Tampa, FL
Tampa is considered the fourth dumbest city in America with only 24.6% of the population over 25 with bachelor’s degrees.
The home to Busch Gardens and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has an estimated population of 343,890 people making it the 54th largest city in the country.
3.) Memphis, TN
Memphis is considered the third dumbest city in America with 24.2 % of the population with college degrees. Memphis also ranked number 5 on our list of “Fattest Cities in America.”
2.) Las Vegas
Las Vegas is ranked the second dumbest city in America. Known for its booming tourism with gambling, shopping and fine dining, only 21.5% of the population is college educated.
Considered the 28th most populous city in the U.S. and called the “Entertainment Capital of The World”, is there any wonder why the education rate is so low?
1.) Riverside, CA
Riverisde, CA is considered the dumbest city in America with only 19.2% of the population obtaining bachelor’s degrees.
Riverside is the 61st most populous city in the United States and 12th most populous city in California.
As of 2009, Riverside had an estimated population of 300,430 and is known for being home to the “World’s Largest Paper Cup.”
Uhhh…are we really surprised, this city’s number one???
