The legendary West Coast producer says that songs he did with Nelly, 2Pac, and Kendrick Lamar should receive greater credit.


The second annual Welcome To The West Music Festival features a stacked lineup of veteran acts along with some of the rising acts that are carrying the torch for the OGs before them. It’s nearly impossible not to two-step to the smooth West Coast sound of DJ Quik’s new track, “Life Jacket,” featuring playalistic veteran Suga Free and Dom Kennedy, who more often than not, is reminiscent of a younger version of the aforementioned rappers.


DJ Quik may not have been a member of N.W.A but his contributions to Compton’s legacy is still unheralded, nonetheless. So you can imagine him and his fan’s disbelief that his catalog is omitted from Dr. Dre’s burgeoning music app, Beats Music.


DJ Quik left fans and media alike on edge the other day when he announced that he was selling all his equipment and would never “remix or engineer again.”


It will be a sad day in Compton if DJ Quik decides to hang up his microphone for good. The veteran rapper/producer recently was dealt a major setback when he had some equipment stolen from his garage.
