Broadcaster Suspended For Racist On-Air Remarks
There is something about ESPN that attracts ignorant, utterly bigoted personalities to their hallowed sports memorabilia-laden offices.
Broadcaster Bob Griese, father of former all-star quarterback Brian, has been suspended for one week after making a racially charged remark during ESPN's NCAA football coverage.
An on-air graphic listing of the top five drivers in NASCAR's points race history was shown during the nationally broadcasted game between Ohio State University and Minnesota. Chris Spielman, an ESPN analyst, questioned legendary racer Juan Pablo Montoya's notable absence from the list, after which Griese remarked in jest, “out having a taco.”
Spokesman for the network, Josh Krulewitz, has stated that ESPN and Griese have spoken and that “he understands the comment was inappropriate.”
Montoya, who is Colombian, has chosen not to comment on the statement, noting that he had never heard of Griese before the incident.
