Black Pilot Admits To Trying To Fly Drunk
51-year-old Ermin Vermont Washington of Colorado has admitted to attempting to fly a United Airlines plane from across the pond to Chicago while three times over the legal alcohol limit.
He was arrested in November after a crew member reported smelling alcohol on his breath and he failed a breathalyzer test.
Prosecutors report that after failing the test he responded to officials saying,
“"Okay, fine."
Washington blew 31 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters. The legal limit for pilots is 9.
After taking a blood test his blood work revealed he had 50 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood. The limit for flying is 20.
He is due to be sentenced February 5 in London. He faces a 2-year jail sentence and a fine.
