Haiti Government Ends Search & Rescue Efforts
Twelve days after the 7.0 earthquake in Haiti, the government has made the controversial decision to end all search and rescue initiatives.
According to the United Nations, there is little hope of finding people still alive in the rubble despite recent rescues of a man and elderly woman Friday.
United Nations spokeswoman Elizabeth Byrs told the Associated Press that this does not mean search and rescue teams will not be allowed to save survivors, just that they are to act at “any sign of life.”
“It doesn't mean the government will order them to stop. In case there is the slightest sign of life, they will act.”
She also told the AP that “except for miracles, hope is slowly dying.”
Sad.
Pray for the people of Haiti.
