Sigma Ghamma Rho Members Charged With Beating, Starving Pledges
Six Sigma Rho members at Rutgers University have been suspended on charges they beat and staved their pledges.
Authorities say they beat and starved the women hoping to join their sorority for eight days.
One of the hopefuls that broke the story told The Star-Ledger they were paddled and said she'd been struck 201 times total.
She also added that the chapter members promised that there was no hazing and that they would only receive beatings to “humble” them.
The girl was in immense pain however and asked her family to take her to the hospital.
She has since been released.
Charged with felony aggravated hazing are Llana Warner, 20, of The Bronx; Vanessa Adegbite, 21, of Jersey City; Joana Bernard, 21, of West Orange; Kesha Cheron, 20, of Newark; Shawna Ebanks, 21, of East Orange; and Marie Charles, 21, of West Orange.
They have been suspended from the national organization as well.
