NEWS

After sparking wide spread relief efforts for his native country of Haiti, Wyclef Jean is receiving recognition.

Arguably the most prestigious University in the country, Harvard University, is announcing plans to honor Wycelf as their 2010 "Artist of The Year."

He'll hit the University's campus on Saturday, February 27 to accept a medal for the nod at the school's annual Cultural Rhythms Awards ceremony.

Clef will receive his award at 3:00 p.m. before giving a special performance at 8:00 p.m.

Clef was selected after being nominated by student organizations but ultimately given the honor by the director of the Harvard Foundation S. Allen Counter.

Counter sang praises to Wyclef in a press release saying,

“His contributions to music and distinguished history of creativity have been appreciated by people throughout the world and he is admired worldwide for his humanitarian efforts on behalf of the people of Haiti.”

The Harvard Foundation honors the nation's most acclaimed artists and scientists each year and has previously given medals to Sharon Stone, Andy Garcia, Will Smith, Matt Damon, Halle Berry, Jackie Chan, Denzel Washington, Salma Hayek, and Herbie Hancock.

Good for Wyclef.

Nice to see his hard work is being recognized.
