“It’s really hard to see them hurt like this because we are really a family.”

In an effort to makeover an under-performing high school, the vote was made by the U.S. school district to fire each and every teacher.

With the high school being Central Falls High School, the Central Falls School Committee made the vote Tuesday to let go of every teaching staff member at the close of the school year.

Using report cards as a reference for the major makeover, reports show that only half of the students graduate and only 7% of the 11th graders were proficient in math in 2009.

In response, the Central Falls Teachers Union is looking to review any legal options that may be available, but have not decided what will be the next step.

“Right now, I’m really kind of numb because I really can’t believe this is happening,” said Special Needs Teacher Wendy Polak.   “I’ve tried to be a very dedicated teacher and I just never thought this would be the way it would end.”

With most of the students devastated by the news that they would no longer see their faculty, some questioned exactly who was to blame for such change.

“I think it’s [the students],” said student Lisa Morales. “Some of the students don’t like to participate.”

Such a thing as education is vital and essential in the development of the young generation in order for them to make the necessary transition to the real world.  Only when losing something does one realize its true significance.
