84-Year-Old Chicago Man Shot Over $1

Chicago police have a man in custody they say admitted to shooting an 84-year-old man in the thigh after he “disrespected him” and did not give him $1.

21-year-old Melvin Hammond told police that he approached the elderly man at a local McDonald's and asked him if he had $1.

When the man did not respond Hammond shot him, shattering his femur.

Police say the man is hard of hearing and did not hear the question.

Hammond has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated battery of a victim over 60 years old and unlawful use of a weapon.

He is being held on $600,000 bail.

SMH…what an idiot.

    I can't believe this these young crazy people today. The young kids don't respect our elders. I think its about home training and discinpline thats not being taught in these homes. The parents are younger and don't know how to parent at all and its a shane an crime shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. There's no way i would let my child be disrespectful!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey now yall think thats crazy?! I was at the club last week and you know some man named Ron Browz came up to me and told me there was no "Wifeing" in the club, and then had to nerve to tell me to give him 20 dollars!!

    This man was my uncle. He was a war veteran and walked to McDonalds every morning to get breakfast. The day before, he got jumped on his way to Holy Name Cathedral. When he came to our family easter celebration and saw him, he told us he did not file a report, he went to church and prayed for the guy! He is the sweetest man in the world. It makes me sick to think that this waste of a life did this for a buck. I am so relieved he is off the streets for now. I wonder what he'll do for a dollar in prison?
