Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell is issuing an apology to Virginians after he says he “forgot” to remember slavery during his declaration of Confederate History Month.

As previously reported, Gov. McDonnell declared the month of April “Confederate History Month” encouraging people to study, understand and remember this wonderful time in VA’s history. He somehow forgot to acknowledge however the Confederacy’s blatant ties to slavery and how offensive a celebration of that might be.

Calling it a “major omission”, Governor McDonnell says that he simply forgot about slavery in his thoughts to praise the Confederacy’s rich history.

He issued a statement apologizing for the “misstep” saying,

“The failure to include any reference to slavery was a mistake, and for that I apologize to any fellow Virginian who has been offended or disappointed. The abomination of slavery divided our nation, deprived people of their God-given inalienable rights, and led to the Civil War. Slavery was an evil, vicious and inhumane practice which degraded human beings to property, and it has left a stain on the soul of this state and nation…

To correct the slight, the Governor will add this to his declaration for Confederate History Month,

WHEREAS, it is important for all Virginians to understand that the institution of slavery led to this war and was an evil and inhumane practice that deprived people of their God-given inalienable rights and all Virginians are thankful for its permanent eradication from our borders, and the study of this time period should reflect upon and learn from this painful part of our history…”

Uhhh yeah.

Too little too late, who the hell wants to celebrate confederate history month anyway?
