Update: 2 Teens Arrested In Murder Of Couple After Their Engagement Party

On Saturday (April 3), police in Jersey City, NJ responded to a call from neighbors when a man and woman were found dead in the street after being shot in the head.

The couple, who were later identified as  Nia Haqq and Michael Muchioki, were reportedly returning from their engagement party, when they were shot in the head during what police have determined to be an attempted carjacking.

“We found them. Right now we have four arrests.” Samuel Jefferson, Director of the New Jersey Police Department told Essence.com in an interview.   “We have the weapon and we have the evidence. And we possibly have someone admitting to the crime, that they were there. Right now, we have one man and two females.”

According to Jefferson, the couple was robbed and murdered, with each of them being shot twice in the head.

“This was a random act of crime and opportunity.” Jefferson continued, “Unfortunately, the devil was on their side for that brief moment. Hopefully now the families can rest and the residents of Jersey City will know these people are off the streets and we recovered the weapon. The suspects took Haqq's engagement ring and Muchioki's wallet. They also took their cell phones and gift cards from the engagement party.”

College sweethearts Michael Muchioki, 27, and Nia Haqq, 25, had planned to marry next April, those close to them said. The couple had met through Greek life at their colleges, Muchioki was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, and Haqq of Alpha Kappa Alpha.

SMH, we need to stop the violence out here fam!

    This was horrific! These young people have relatives too that are now left behind to mourn their senseless death all because some ignorant, selfish people decided they wanted something that belonged to someone else. Wanting something that belongs to someone else is the reason most people get up and go to work every day - so they can buy it, NOT STEAL IT! Life in prison is too good. I am a God fearing person, but since these animals fear nothing then death is what they deserve.
