Chicago bred emcee, Common recently sat down in an interview with Billboard.com and discussed his upcoming album and what fans can expect.

The upcoming album, which is slated for a fall release, is tentatively titled The Believer and will feature production by Kanye West as well as veteran producer No I.D.

“It’s ‘good’ music,” Common said. “The themes are street music and elevation, things that I feel like I always embody when I rap. But here there’s new situations, new solutions.”

Although Common has been out promoting his new film, the romantic comedy Just Wright” with Queen Latifah, he tells fans that next on the list is really working with his non-profit organization, the Common Ground Foundation.

“I’m working with Rita Williams and a team of other people to empower the youth holistically, mentally, academically, socially, health-wise,” he said. “It shows African American people in such a classic way, in such a beautiful way,” he said, “but appeals to people of all nationalities.”

Common who also has a small role in the comedy Date Night, starring Tina Fey and Steve Carrell, is not completely stepping back from acting. He told New York Magazine that he loves movie promotion.

“I come from a background where you spread the news yourself. You go to clubs, you go to restaurants, you hand out posters, and you talk to people. They want to meet you, touch you, feel connected to you.”

Just Wright hits theatres on May 14th.
