Jermaine Dupri Calls Usher “Disrespectful”

NEWS

“…you sold more records than any other artist in this decade based on that album and now I have to ask you am I the executive producer of your next album? That seems disrespectful to me.”

Whether a person wants to blame pride or ego, producer Jermaine Dupri seems to have some sort of gripe with Usher and feels the singer isn't paying him the right respect in terms of playing executive producer.

Being known for revitalizing the careers of Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey and others, Dupri states, after speaking with VIBE, that his credentials place him in a position where artists should be lining up asking for his assistance, not vice versa.

“Me as a producer, it's kind of hard for me to go back into people's projects when I gave you your biggest album ever.”

While many might just look at Dupri as simply being full of himself, he chooses to stand behind the facts to establish exactly what he's done for artists in the game.

“Obviously, I'm looking at something different than everyone is looking at it whether it's the label, the artist, management… whoever it is. I've had this same conversation with L.A. Reid, because I'm doing Mariah Carey's album right now. And on her last album, I didn't have one song on there. But I did Emancipation of Mimi and she sold more records than she sold in the last five years. What part of the game makes y'all not call me?”

Stating that he has worked with Usher since Confessions, let's hope that the singer might make the decision to pick up the phone as every album since has taken a dip in quality, as dictated by the fans that still hold 2004 as his best year.

Usher's record sales is not just based on quality of the product that he offers fans but also the relationship that he has with them. Fans were alarmed and felt betrayed in regards to Usher getting marry, the partner that he chose and the family life he seemed to have taken on. With or without Dupri, he will break his own record. I admire Dupri; he's confident..great..he has a right to say whatever he wishes to say; HOWEVER FANS HAS THE FINAL SAY. It's only been a few months since his divorce; some believe the divorce was part of his album promotion. He needs to rekindle back "trust" with his fans...and that will take some time. I predict that in another two years, Usher will reach the ultimate peak of his career. What I would love for Jermaine to focus on is bringing back to life the career of Miss Janet Jackson..we love and miss her so much..(DJ Mona-Lisa..Music Master Rater)

In a way I get what JD is saying yet I would'nt say it publically towards people that are supposed to be my friends. The thing is, it works both ways. The same way "Confessions" was Usher's biggest album and made him alot of money is the same way that album worked for Jermaine. He also made money and got accolades for the album so I dont think he should have the thought process of someone owes him something. I think JD is one of the most underated producers of this generation but he still is working and making money from these major artists and I think he should be greatful for that because alot of producers arent even getting called in this day and time.

  • http://raptweets.net Jermaine

When you got artists "Tweeting" people to send them beats for free, it's gonna be hard for any major producer to be making money these days. But complaining about other specific artists only draws resentment.

  • RedboneKillBill

While he does have a point, Usher is supposed to be your dawg,ya'll are/were cloned the new rat pack and ish. Why air out your dirty laundry in public? Sad

    Jermaine,

Should understand that this is business. He is supposedly credited with *****isting in Mirah's and Janet's carrers and right now both of them are considered flops with regards to their latest projects.

To me Usher has always been that artist that is on the cusp, while he has had sucess he is not what I would call a major star. Hopefully they will work it out.

  • Pebblebeach

Hey Lil Big man..talk to Usher in private...

  • KISSMYBUTT

jermaine was not on mariah last 2 albums that were flops. he was on her emani*****tion of mimi that sold over 5 millions records.

  • ohmira

    Jermaine's right; Usher IS disrespectful.

  • QUEEN

Jermaine does have a point!!!! these stars get major money of of the albums he produced...then they start getting big headed and call someone else for their next album...then soon as that album flop they run back to J.D.

Think of all the artist that J.D. put on and see how many sells they have without him...dude got an hell of a point!
    4rm tha Queen

Eveybody knows that what JD is saying has been the ""elephant in the room" for Ushers last two albums. But it kinda feeels wrong for JD to speak on it in public. Me being a "lifer" and an "Ocenas Chick" myself I feel like I'm apart of the family "in my head"so to read this Im like "keep it between family not in public.

    • rodney

Thank you i agree totally .

  • Shoni

JD is dead on! If he's cranked out the hits for these people then why not call him...Doesn't that make since. He has made a lot of stars and he is sooooo underrated..He is a way better producer than Diddy...that's for sure!

@DJ Mona Lisa why do you feel picking Usher's wife and family should be any of your or our concern? We dont own him..He's an artist if you like his music then buy it, if you dont, then dont!

  • tee

Why and I agree with @shoni is it any of our concern who Ushered married? He married and ok. If his music is/was good why? times change. What was hot 2 years isnt today. thats just life. Before him was Bobby Brown (he got married) Ja Rule (he married) Snoop, football players, Tiger Woods, basketball players, etc. you get my point. How bout women are so selfish, greedy and *****istic that they actually elude themselves into believing they have a chance. Look I used to have a bad crush on Nas, loved him too death. As soon as he was engaged too Kelis=congrats. That was the end of that. These women are delusional, self serving, hateful, miserable and downright worshippers of people who are not deserving. Usher is a artist. Period. He did not cure a disease, or create anything but entertainment. He married Tameka and she wasnt even given a chance to allow her marriage to work. He chose her. His album sales arent great because Trey Songz and others. A new crop every generation has its time. He had a great run. Dang people get a "real life" reality tv aint real and artists are entertainers nothing else.

    artists DONT OWE jermaine anything!
he gets paid for his services.
because an album is successful it doesnt mean that people have to work with him everytime.....
he has a stink attitude and an inflated ego....
not everybody can put up with that

  • Darren Smith

    Usher doesn't owe JD anything.

PS: He DID NOT revitalize Janet's career. Since he started producing Janet, her sales have PLUNGED!

  • bmo
