Teacher Lets Students Dress Like The Ku Klux Klan For Project [Video]
A Georgia teacher is facing termination this morning after she allowed her students to wear robes and hoods like the Ku Klux Klan for their final class project.
Catherine Ariemma, a teacher at Lumpkin County High School, is on administrative leave for allowing students in her advanced placement U.S. History class to don white sheets and makeshift hoods to look like Klansmen.
Ariemma led the children draped in sheets and hoods through the school's lunchroom so they could film a movie on racism in America for their final project.
She tells the Associated Press,
“The kids brought the sheets in, they had SpongeBob party hats underneath to make it shaped like a cone. They cut out the eyes so they could see….It was poor judgment on my part in allowing them to film at school…That was a hard lesson learned."
Students in the school were reportedly outraged and one of Ariemma's fellow teachers approached her about her decision to let them wear the garb.
