DJ Absolut To Sue Over Drake's “Best I Ever Had”

Hot 97 DJ, DJ Absolut is filing a a breach of contract lawsuit for his contribution to Drake's hit single “Best I Ever Had.”

Absolut filed the lawsuit in a Queens courtroom Monday against Nakia Coleman better known as rapper/ producer Kia Shine claiming that Shine violated an agreement they made over the single.

Shine made headlines this fall when he claimed to have 25% of the publishing rights to the Billboard hit, a claim Drake vehemently denied saying,

“I have never met Kia Shine or worked with him. I wrote the entire composition in Toronto and I borrowed one line from a Lil Wayne song that he produced the BEAT for. The claims of 25% ownership are false and for a artist to brag about splits on a song is distasteful to begin with…”

Shine however had proof had and showed off a picture of himself holding two Billboard plaques for his contribution to the song.

According to lawyers for Absolut, Shine agreed to pay him 20% of the proceeds from the song because it contained a beat he made prior to its release.

Shine reportedly violated that agreement and met with representatives for Drake to get 25% of the song's copyright interest earning him a reported $1 million.

A lawyer for Absolut tells the New York Daily News that they've been unable to reach Shine.

"Kia Shine needs to uphold his end of the agreement. It wasn't my client's desire to resort to legal action to get him to do it. We've reached out to him, but he has not chosen to respond."

The song stems from “Do It For Ya Boy”, a song produced by Kia Shine and Lil Wayne that appeared on Absolut's The Leak mixtape.
