Former Oakland Raiders Quarterback Jamarcus Russell has been arrested and released on a $2,500.00 bond after being charged with possession of controlled substance.

The 24 year old continues to spiral downhill with a disappointing career on and off the field with the latest arrest that involves possession of Codeine Syrup during an undercover narcotics investigation.

Although it is not said what led to his arrest, Russell did not have a prescription for the codeine and was arrested in his house in the presence of several other people.  Russell’s bond was set at $2,500 dollars, and will have to return to court on July 20th.

Jamarcus Russell may be one of the biggest bust to ever play for the NFL, after he won only seven of his 25 starts and was benched. He completed just 52.1 percent of his passes in his career with 18 touchdowns, 23 interceptions, 15 lost fumbles and a passer rating of 65.2.

Codeine Syrup is also known as “Purple Drank” or “Sizzurp” made popular by rappers such as DJ Screw, Lil Wayne, and Three Six Mafia.  It combines a combination of cough syrup, Sprite, and candy such as jolly ranchers to give it color and flavor.
