Bishop Eddie Long's Cellphone Photos Released, Attorney Defends Them

Cellphone photos Bishop Eddie Long reportedly sent to three male members of his congregation have surfaced online.

As previously reported, the Bishop is facing sexual coercion charges from three men who claim he used his position at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church to engage them in sexual relationships.

The latest turn in the case however are cellphone pictures obtained by the plaintiffs' attorney B.J. Bernstein that show the Bishop taking pictures in his bathroom and wearing spandex.

Attorney Bernstein says she also has text messages the pastor sent to her three clients.

Long's attorney Craig Gillen defended his client's pictures this morning during an interview with V-103's "Frank And Wanda Morning Show" saying,

“The photos don't corroborate these charges. [Bishop Long] is a health advocate, he's a weight lifter. He's a fella, who's gonna go to work and he's gonna have on a muscle shirt. And you know he may show up in church in a muscle shirt. There's nothing really in those photographs that seems to me corroborative of these allegations.”

Bishop Long cancelled a scheduled press conference today but will speak to his congregation during Sunday's service.

    These are the types of pics you would send to someone you are trying to "hook-up" with, NOT from a man of God giving spiritual guidance. They in and of themselves, are non-harming; but one has to know the context in which they were sent. Why send these kinds of pics to young boys unless there were motives behind such? Would the church be ok if these kinds of pics were sent to , say, the single women in the church? Would such still be defended? If these were young girls who had been victimized by this man, would the church members be so forgiving and stand by the Bishop? If this were the CEO of a large corporation, would it be OK? Why do we turn a blind eye when the preacher does something wrong in the black church? When a priest is brought up on charges of molestation, we are outraged, but oh no, not the Bishop!!! Come on now. This is, in my opinion, a cl*****ic modern day of David(s) taking down Goliath, kudos to these young men for their bravery in coming forth...

      @ Kay Kay: With ALL DUE RESPECT, why is it when a man of God's ill actions (alleged) are brought to the foreforont, we are so quick to say they are being "tested" or the "enemy is mad/jealous"? I do not mean any harm, but being a "MIGHTY MAN OF GOD" does not mean he is without sin. Ive worked as Church Administrator for over 9 years for a very large church and what goes on behind closed doors only a select few are aware of. We put or trust in MAN and not GOD and it becomes inconceivable that they do wrong; that's a big mistake we all make when it comes to the man of God. I too stood by and supported my pastor 110% and NO ONE could tell me anything about him, no matter what "proof" they had; knowing that I knew the truth about this man and his illegal actions. That's something I have to live with as I had no one I could turn to, to show/tell what was really going on. Its happening more than you know or realize. I do not condemn Bishop Long, its not my place to do so, but please do not take the position that someone is "out to get him because he is a Mighty Man fof God" because such will only leave you with scars and later on questioning your entire spiritual foundation. I know, I am living proof!

        I agree with vjm. We must remember, these men are not without sin. Secondly, no pastor should look and act so vain as Bishop Long. Many are called, FEW are choosen. Also David killed due to lust, and had to repent. If this is true, Bishop Long must repent and step down!!!

    By the grace of God there goes I. Who can throw the first stone? My brothers and sisters, this could have been anyone of us. Let's forgive him, have comp*****ion and continue to pray for him. God's unconditional love would do just that and we are made in his image and likeness! I do think this is a sad event; yet, it is not for me to judge another as I know that none of us are any better than another and could have committed the same crime. Lord, heal and restore them all.

    Why is it that these accusations just came out and they claim that they were at the age of 14 yrs old when they were approached by the Bishop. Where is the parents of these kids who should of speak out from the time they said that the incident took place, you are telling me that 9 years later they just discovered that the Bishop were trying to seduce them? Let us keep the Bishop and the three gentleman in our prayers, and know that God is a just God and he will expose what ever in the dark to light. I stand with the Bishop in this trying time of his life and let him know if God is for you, who can be against you. No weapon form against you shall prosper and any tongue that rise up against you will be condemn in the name of Jesus. DO not put your TRUST in man but in God and what ever the enemy means for bad God will turn it around for your good.

    You know people got to understand that you learn the WORD for yourself. Yes he is a man of God, but he is also a man. You go to church to listen to the word of God being spoken through your pastor or whomever. You have the spirit within you..You have a personal relationship with God..Pastor, Preachers, Reverends, etc.. just deliver the message. Don't judge anyone. My thoughts, if it is true, where were these kids parents when all this was going on?

What ever is in the dark will be brought to light...You are either part of the solution or part of the problem...Why would a male preacher go into his bathroom and take photos of himself in spandex wear to send to young males. Why wouldn't the health nut have photos made in public and distribute them in public. Why is he taking photos in the bathroom anyway...Doesn't he live in a mansion...
    I am constantly saddened by these immoral acts that are repeatedly purpertrated against our young people, under the cloth. It doesn't matter if Frank Ski supports Eddie Long or not, there are enough people in the world who are honest enough to admit that this behavior is not acceptable from a church leader. This is not about forgiveness or about innocent until proven guilty, first it's about the photos?????? Then it's about the lies that surface in an effort to minimize their existence...
    What a disgusting world we live in...I guess it's good that the congregation is supporting Pastor Long since they are footing his legal bill!

    I concur with your statements. What man would send another man photos of himself in workout gear. That's very suspect! Moreover, I hope they release the text messages! Because the text messages will put the photos in the proper perspective. And that's what Long's lawyer is trying to argue,but when it's all done and said, his congregation of sheep will still follow him!

    People have to be careful as not to "set them selves up". I don't know if these allegations are true or not. Only those three young men, the bishop and God know the truth, hence I wont judge them in any respect. What I do know is ... as a man and a father of seven strong young men, I would NEVER take such a picture of myself to send to any man, and that includes my own father! Lord help them all.

      I have read every bodies comments and you all make some good points. I just want to add that it is a sad day for the Baptist Church. Doesn't matter if he is found guilt or not, he engaged in some wrongful acts. I went to his church before and didn't care to much for it. It seems like a show. Why does all his clothes have to be so tight! I know he is into health but does he need to show case it to the world. He is suppose to be a man of the cloth and needs to act that way. I pray more for the young men and the followers of Eddie Long. Like some one else said, "WHat is done in the dark will come to the light".

        @Malinda Perizionaia - I'm sure the boy's attorney have proof that these pictures were sent before the IPhone was stolen. The pictures would have been date stamped if sent to them via email or text message. Sorry to bust your Perry Mason bubble. Also, I doubt that he kept those pictures on his phone. Also, these photos aren't recent photos of Bishop Long. I don't care one way or another about Eddie Long and his troubles got my own. I do care about these so called men of God, fleecing the people who come to them for spiritual guidance. I would not attend a church where the pastor who has no JOB other than pastoring a church is driving a $350,000 Bentley and his parishners are driving up in hoopties or catching the bus. The fall from grace is swift and hard.

    Christians should stay focus on God and not man. When you loose focus and depend and look up to man we will be disappointed each and every time.

    We forget so fast that whether it is the truth or not this man have a family, so we must pray for them instead of kicking them while they are down.

    We should wait and hear the facts from both side before we are ready to stone him. If you are a christian think like a christian.

    Remember what Jesus said when they wanted to stone the woman. What about us with all of our flaws. Suppose our heavenly father would turn on us when we do wrong. He is a merciful and gracious God. Therefore, being a christian we are suppose to be Christ Like...being Christ Like is not being un-forgiven.

    I pray that this will cause christians to be more loving and kind. We all have fallen short.

    I pray for the Long family and the young men, and whatever way this may turn out it is between him and God.

    He teaches the false doctrine of prosperity, so guilty or not of these charges, he was NOT a man of God as far as his messages (no, I am not saying he was not saved). He taught a false doctrine to personally prosper on the backs of his congregation, just like Creflo Dollar, and the others around the US. Eddie wanted to be a rich political power broker -- not a true God led minister of the Gospel. If he gets through this issue, he'll simply use it to scam more people by falsely presenting the Word of God. He should be drummed out of his church for that alone.

    Concerned citizen, speak the truth. I praise God for that powerful response. I prayed for God to expose the churches. We are in the age of "exposure", where your sins will find you "out". It's a sad day, that people are struggling to determine what is true. The Word says "study to show yourself approved, a workman need not be a shamed, rightly dividing the truth!!     "Battle with God"; are you serious? Where is it written that a ordinary man do "battle" with God. I hope this is not a subconscious wrong choice of words on your part. As sinners; we battle the flesh; not God. which is exactly what Long is accused of not doing. Pray for those young men and Long; but pray for the truth. And if it turns out that he did do it; he should 'render unto Caesar in the here and now. If Long did do it he should through himself on God's mercy and depend on His Grace for forgiveness. If Long did do it we should pray for those young men he defiled.

    So, I ask you, if he has nothing to hide and in his words has done nothing wrong or immoral, why is he barricading himself in his home? He will be making a "statement" to his congregation on Sunday. Hell, he can make a statement today via the media. Why wait for Sunday? Hey! These are awesome words to a song that I heard years ago as I child and it still sticks with me today. Oh how wonderful it is to know that in the midst of it all, Jesus forgives and Jesus saves. HE DROPPED THE CHARGES AND PAID IT ALL FOR US ON CALVARY...case dismissed SAVED BY GRACE! If you don't know, it wasn't the nails that held him to the cross, he could have come down but my soul would be lost! No matter the outcome of this case, all parties involved can be forgiven. I hate that the human aspect of emotions will always remember the accused and the accusers, well after this has been resolved, but we all must remember that at the name of Jesus, every knee will have to bow. That being said, we should be ever so careful about how we catergorized others, for you never know when you will have to walk a mile in their shoes. It may not be the same situation, but hurt and shame is hurt and shame, no matter the components. "It is me, it's me oh, Lord, I am standing in the need of prayer! Not my mother, father, sister or brother BUT IT'S ME OH LORD, YES IT"S ME OH LORD.. I am standing in the need of prayer! Let's pray for one another everyone! For, it could have been you or me, if it wasn't for the blood!.....

    okay. here is the biggest problem. the People's perception of Eddie Long is wrong. I know that i am guilty of this too. We look at him like ie is infallible, incapable of making mistakes or commiting sins. What most of us forget is the fact that her is just a Man. A simple man who probably sins everyday... we just don't know about it. for those of you who think that it is right to place judgement on him... the bible says that sin is sin; whether it is a little white lie or molesting boys, it is SIN. our human minds try to place sin on a scale from ok to terrible, when god looks at it all the same. So that little white lie we told earlier today is just as bad as what Eddie Long committed (supposedly). I think that we should just let the man speak, see what he has to say and then gather our thoughts on the matter from there. I just hope and pray that this doesn't affect the unbelievers view of christianity because in this situation that is what really matters. We need to lift all spiritual leaders up in prayer!

    @ concerned citizen...you really should have started what you had to say about the attorney and MY BISHOP differently. The attorney wouldn't have taken the case if he didn't feel Bishop Long deserved to have great representation against these allegations. You're right, the case is not "frivilous"...the attorney sees a man facing a horrible situation and needs his help. These are horrible allegations...why shouldn't he have representation? how on earth can you say the attorney took the case because there was merit to the allegations? YOU should be ashamed of yourself. But, just know this...WE GOT THIS!!!!!!

    You don't have to be a lawyer to figure this out.... It's a KNOWN FACT that these men broke into the Bishop's office a few months ago and were arrested. During the break in they stole the Bishop's iPhone. What does Bishop have in his hand in the mirror? HIS STOLEN iPHONE!!!....the one with HIS PICTURES that he took of himself on it. There's no crime in this. I have tons of pictures on my own phone that I take of myself all the time. And with Bishop being the health buff that he is, it's not strange to me that he would take pictures of himself in his bathroom. I'm LAUGHING OUT LOUD at this evidence. And I'm sure Bishop's lawyers are already on it...pictures from the Bishop's stolen iPhone.

    Another victim!!....and this is only the beginning. Supporters hold on to your weaves, the road is about to become bumpy. Anyone who (allegedly) abuses a child has killed who that young man/womans could have become. I do not feel sorry for Bishop Long or anyone else who harms a child, especially in this manner. These were children when they were under his "care". Regardless of when they came forward or even why they came forward, I applaud these young men bravery and courage for speaking out. They may have saved your son from becoming this man's (and I use that term VERY lightly) next victim. I have read many posts and while we may all have different views/opinions, it is a wake up call for us all and any dialouge that with potentially help a child in the future is a wonderful thing. Kudos to these 4 (FOUR!!) young men!!

      And sadly, VLM, we are hearing that there are many, MANY more, now attempting to come forward with stories and allegations (as many as 30!)... Some that as current as this month... I don't think he will be able to pay out 'hush money' to that many... SMH!

    Bishop Long's issues are not the photos. Period! There are two issues: child molestation and his betrayal: to God, his family, congregation and all believers. I don't know about you but I want someone to judge my behavior and hold me accountable, especially if it means defiling the church and the word of God. It's one thing to make a mistake but it's another thing to "willfully practice sin" (quoted by another blogger). I'm tired of hearing "he made a mistake". Funny how people cry that they made a mistake when they get caught. Until then, they play the game until they lose! When you sow destruction you reap the same. It is time for pastors to be brought down from the throne, that church members have put them on, and put God back up there where He belongs! Pastor's sins have been covered up too long by the members and they will be going straight to hell along with him. My ex husband/pastor cheated on me with a minister in the church, other women in the church and women outside the church. He's lies, denial, deceit and no repentance meant nothing to the church. He continues to preach every Sunday and counsel married or soon to be married couples! Just glad I won't be there when God comes back to claim that church!

    I read the first few comments, and I think that the majority of people are concerned about whether he is guilty or not and whether the young men are not, however, those are not the most important issues. The fact of the matter is, there are false profits, and IF he is actually one of those false profits, then what about the thousands of souls who he LEADS? With the publicity that this has gained, you have people looking for a church home, and in the day and time we all NEED a church home, but this can make them turn away. The fact of the matter is, we really do need to pray for him, but we also need to pray for his members, and those others who this may have had a negative impact on. Ultimately, he won't have to answer to anyone but God, however, God will reveal things because if anything isn't right @ New Birth, and the people are not getting what they need, that's a lot of lost souls. I do hope that allegations are false and that he is in fact a true man of God primarily for the sake of people everywhere!

    When three men came forward...there are your witnesses. when a forth man came forward ....that was the confirmation. Denial will only hurt his congregation because eventually the truth will come out and the Devil....is unmerciful.     Forgiveness is not an issue for me, because I am not a member of his flock, and I feel saddened by the pain he has caused many of Gods children, by saying they are an abomination, not even worthy to sit at God's table. What is abominatable to me is HIPOCRACY. If this is true (& it is not as yet proven) then how can a man who has actively campaigned his whole life against gay people, then suddenly we find that he has been comitting gay (or bi) acts with young men, 17 or 18 years old........Thats the worse kind of hipocrit (if it is true).

    These SO-CALLED leaders of the churches are going to be held accountable for being a hypocrite. I am so glad that GOD is exposing them and there are more exposing to come. That's one of the reason people don't go to church.

    It's taking him entirely too0000000 long speak on this matter. He should have come out and said it's untrue if that's the truth and nothing more as soon as it hit the news.

    Hopefully, LONG will tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

    A picture is a picture. I'm sure other pastors take pictures evryday of themselves. Bt if he sent it to tha men then shame on God got tht. But who are we to judge and we have our own sin.     As I follow most of the comments regarding the Bishop Eddie Long matter, I find that the ones that most disturb me are those made by "New Birth" church members.
    I'm just horrified; as to how they managed to paint Bishop Long as a victim. In addition, while you're praying for Bishop Long and his family, why aren't they praying for the four young men and their folks? How can you tell other people that they should forgive Bishop Long, but not ask people to forgive the young men too! Why is New Birth dissing the four young men? Even if the allegations are false, wouldn't the same scripture that New Birth applied to Bishop, apply to the four young men. When you read the comments that are in support of Bishop long, they are hypocritical at the least. "I'm not a perfect man", "I'm under attack" (Standing Ovation) " I'm gonna fight this thing" (Standing Ovation), "I feel like David and Goliath' (ovation)... No evidence of humility!
    Who's praying for the young men who are also under attack and who are also not perfect? Who's quoting scripture that supports them? This thing is so one sided that it's crazy. Apparently New Birth does not realize that they are portraying an image that suggests "idol worship!"

    But Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor." Matthew 13;57

    Especially for "New Birth Church Members"

    If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector." Matthew 18;15:17

    Evangelist21, no what you have SAID is wrong! Do you not know that God tells us in 1 John 4:1 "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world."

    So how you gone say that these men were wrong? No, Eddie Long is wrong, too! A sin is a sin and if they are wrong, then so is False Eddlie Long! Some fools keep following up this mess about 'God's anointed!' God has never punished us for testing these so-called 'anointed' men of God

    But God will punish us if we fail to test them & entrust them with our souls, our children's souls, and take them at their every word. I don't know about you, Evangelist21, but you better re-read and re-study your Bible, because it is not a sin to test these preachers.

    If it was, then I'm on my way to hell, because I have certainly tested many of them & will continue to do so, because that's what 1st John 4:1 says, is not to believe every spirit but try (test) them jokers!

    Why? Because many false prophets (Eddie Long) are gone out into the world. When a man teaches/preaches the Bible & lives it, THEN & ONLY THEN will I be afraid to speak of him because I can see his faith by the way he lives. Faith is in vain if we say we love God but don't do anything God says.

    So open your Bible, pray to God for understanding, Evangelist21, and you will be suprised what you've been missing! AMEN!

People think that religion makes somebody special or chosen. The Supreme made all in this world, non believers,critics, everything. At the end of the day for me this all jokes, because no matter what happens the World will not be a better place because of this Eddie Long joke. It is a reflection on the human race. Further more if man is made in the image of god what does that say for ALL of us and ALL of YOU SELF RIGHTEOUS ZEALOTS!

    This is a real shame. I cannot believe that his members actually believe he is innocent. He never said he was innocent, he never said he didn't do it. He knows he did and I hope the church doesn't have to pay for his defense or cough up the money to pay these young boys off.

    This man is the worst of the worst and God will get him. I do compare people like him to Satan. He and those catholic priests are ruining our young men. Parents keep your boys away from these guys.

    Also he still looks old no matter how much he pumps up his muscles. I bet some of those boys wanted to puke!

    I have to wonder if this pastor was white if some of you would be defending him so valiantly. Mr. Long said: "I want you to know that I'm not a perfect man, but this thing, I'm gonna fight it."
    What more do you want in terms of an admission? It seems that in the black community, role models, leaders, etc. are free from accountability (OJ Simpson, Jesse Jackson, etc.). Obviously this doesn't reflect the idealogy of the entire black community but it does seems more prevalent than in other cultures? No?

    I think we are all going to learn a lot from this, and myself included. I stay away from those churches where they preach hate/fire/brimstone. They often reek of hipocracy. The members have been brainwashed. They don't know it now.....but just you wait.

    Not only should Long be forced to step down, but radio hosts like steve harvey and tom joyner who make light of this case, who joke about it, should be forced to step down just like dom imus was forced to step down, Dr. Laura and so many others.

    It is time for the black community to step up and demand accountability for the voices in our media. Ones who are paid to lead by example.

      James, the way in which we cans step up and demand accountability, as you stated. is to turn off the radio and tv. Its all about ratings and the higher the ratings the longer these shows remain on the airwaves. When you are in your car pop in your favorite cd or turn into another station; that will make a difference. WE continue to "feed the monster" by giving it our attention.

    The dinosaurs was just an example of since there was an earth, there have be difference between those who inhabit it. But the little fat man in GA comment was pretty funny. Bible or not, a god or not, but as the human race we will always find away to seperate ourselves from one group and identify ourselves with another. So until we as humans start to learn that you are you and I'am me, we no matter who you are we all live on earth together. GOVERN YOURSELF and all else will follow. Truth breads truth. Anything that seperates is devicive. So when someone say I'm a christian, or muslim or whatever, color, neighboorhood, state, school, church. All of this is say well I'm differrent. So what if you live in the hood. You still breath the same as they do in Africa. This Eddie Long thing is a systemic problem that has effected every person of color that claims to be christian. It even has had effected the gay comminity.

    I am actually saddened by this whole thing & I just think this whole situation does not present a good picture to those who are not christians, or those who may be thinking of coming to Christ...As I always say, "...some folks (sometimes the ones screaming the loudest, shouting and dancing the most) give God a bad name."

    I grew up around bible thumpin' folk, including numerous family members and have had many dealings with them, both personal and impersonal, So, I know that even though perhaps we always mean well, often as with anyone, the lower man takes over and we are not acting like christians as described in the bible, no matter how sanctimonious we claim to be, or what glorious titles we have given ourselves we all have our challenges...

    But, when one has spent his or whole preaching career preaching against something that he himself is discovered to be caught up in, I say it is simply scandalous and I am deeply saddened, not surprised, just saddened.

    I pray that I may learn from this experience, not only that i may not fall into the same situations, but that I may not judge and condemn others, because, I am not the judge. Only God knows the heart.

    Six lawsuits connected with Eddie Long and New Birth church in Atlanta. At this point regardless of whether Bishop Long is guilty or innocent, he should let go of his pride and step down until this mess is cleaned up. Today it seems as if the black church, has resorted to worshipping man instead of God. What's even more disturbing is that; Black church members refuse to stand up and do the right thing. They are hell bent on talking about forgiveness, but weak when it comes to making leaders accountable for their sinful or criminal actions. I believe that we should forgive and make people accountable too! However, it's wrong to ignore behavior and actions that are morally and criminally wrong. Many people have been harmed here, regardless of which party is wrong or right. The biggest man needs to stand down and fix this thing, stop fighting and start worshipping and praying for forgiveness. And then and only then can he honestly repent. But, whatever he decides to do, it should not involve leading a congregation!
