A man in Florida with a history of mental illness fatally shot one man, before driving  through his Gainesville neighborhood on a 13-minute shooting spree and  killing himself.

According to Gainesville police, Clifford Miller killed one and wounded a total of 5 people during his violent rant.

Police believe that although the spree seemed random, Miller knew exactly who he was aiming for.

“We don’t know the reasons he went to the houses, but we know he went to specific locations,” Alachua County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Steve Maynard said.

“He had opportunities to go someplace to be a random shooter. He could have gone to the mall, or a number of different locations. He did not do that.”

Authorities also report that all victims shot during the fracas were men, but refused to confirm the identity of the victims or give a motive.

Police state that the shooter was targeting specific people at each location and shot the men he was looking for by firing multiple rounds at each spot.

Miller, who had a lengthy criminal history, was deemed in both of his minor cases this year as “incompetent to stand trial”.

The victims are being treated at Gainesville area hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to critical injuries.

Miller was found dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
