The Cool Kids Split From Label
Looks as if Chicago Hip-Hop duo The Cool Kids have won two battles this year, the legal rights to their group name and now the end of their record contract with their long time label Chocolate Industries.
According to TheBoombox.com, the duo was unhappy with their record deal with Chocolate Industries for the past couple of years, and therefore took the imprint to court to get released from the contract.
At one point, they tried to change their group name to “Chuck & Mikey,” so they could legally release new music, but were forced to remain silent until the court case was completed.
The duo, who announced the split via Twitter, told fans that their delay of their long awaited album was not by choice, but instead a faulty record deal that left them shelved. Now being “free agents,” they plan on dropping an album soon, their way.
“Yo! Were free agents.. The Cool Kids are out of record label jail… Let’s cheers to that,” Chuck (@ChuckIsDope) posted on his Twitter page. “In case you were wondering why we never put an album out, we were dealing with some sh** we couldn’t control in a short amount of time.
But me and @SirMichaelRocks stood up for ours. and in return.. We get what we wanted. Freedom to make our music. Without the BS.”
Although the duo was unable to release their major debut, they have been very busy this summer dropping the third mixtape, Tacklebox. Mikey gave a special shout out to the fans who have supported them during their label woes.
