Atlanta played host to ASCAP’s second annual “Women Behind The Music “series to honor some of the music industry’s most prolific women.

Included in that group was singer/songwriter Kelly Rowland, Hanna Kang General Manager of T.I.’s Grand Hustle record label and entertainment attorney Sandra Brown.

The ladies were celebrated at the event sponsored by Belvedere Pink Grapefruit and Roc-a-wear with help from host Rashan Ali and DJ Traci Steele on the 1’s and 2’s.

Music veteran and previous HipHopWired interviewee Shanti Das was also on sight to sign copies of her book “The Hip Hop Professional: A Woman’s Guide to Climbing The Ladder Of Success In The Entertainment Business.

“Gucci Mane, I love his Haterade record, he has a record called Haterade with Nicki Minaj. I like Waka Flocka…I would really love to collaborate with Pharrell, I would really love to collaborate with Kanye…”

 

The series was started by head of ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Nicole George and included celebrity guests Johnta Austin, Devyne Stephens and Princess of Crime Mob amongst others.

“ASCAP Presents…Women Behind The Music” series is designed to encourage and recognize women in the music community, highlighting not only women songwriters and artists, but women working in all facets of the business, including managers, attorneys, label executives and music publishers.

Planned to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the series then takes to New York (Oct.14) with songwriter/SRC-Motown Universal Records artist Melanie Fiona and Los Angeles (Oct.27) with musician/singer Sheila E.
