The mother of the young man T.I. talked down from the roof top of an Atlanta building has decided to speak out against reports that the incident was a publicity stunt.

In an interview with  V-103 Atlanta, Joshua’s mother (who currently lives in Tennessee), states that her son was depressed because he couldn’t find a job in Atlanta.

She also added that legal issues and lack of opportunities ultimately led to his decision to attempt to take his life.

“[I tried to tell him] to hang in there, I even said let’s try and go see if you can get into the military, but unfortunately my son have some legal issues in Atlanta. So at this point and time, he has to clear that stuff up before he can even be accepted. He’s tried everything, okay. That’s basically where he was at and I told him well you know what….if nothing works then I’ll just come and get you…after you handle what you have to handle. And you can just stay with me.”

The woman also claimed that the incident was far from a publicity stunt and if it weren’t for T.I., her son would have died.

“I wish it was a publicity stunt and my son wasn’t hurting as bad as he is and to get up there and do something like that,” the mother continued. “It’s an embarrassment really and it’s like my God, thank God for T.I!! So I’m just saying that it’s crazy for people to think that someone would do that as a publicity stunt. It just bothers my mind.”

Although many feel that it was a set up for T.I. to stay out of jail, the grateful mother states that it was her faith that ultimately saved her son.

“I try to instill in my children that yes there is a higher power,” the mother said. “I thank God for T.I coming to that place where my son was on that building. Because it had not been for him, he might not be here today. I would not want to come to Atlanta to bury my child.”

As previously reported, T.I. has promised to give moral support to help Joshua get back on his feet.
