A mother has been charged for the tragic death of her 8-year old son, Brandon Yang, after they were both found unconscious from a carbon monoxide leak in their apartment.
Officials say the mother intentionally left a charcoal grill in their home turned on for both of them to suffocate.
“When the fire department did get to the second floor they did have to force entry. There was a large…piece of furniture that was blocking the door,” said Chief Paul Keenan of the Quincy Police Department. “It doesn’t appear that they were cooking anything.”
The mother wouldn’t have survived if it had not been for her 16-year old son calling firefighters after returning home that day.
When they arrived, she was found alongside her son with the door shut.
The 8-year old died in the hospital while his mother is currently recovering and her other son is staying with other family members.
“I was just coming in from work and I saw the fire truck pull up. Of course I was curious, and I saw them take the little boy out, and then they were working on the mother I guess. Then they took her out,” said Sue Sullivan, neighbor.
Neighbors are still in shock over the crime, which Police officials cannot seem to find the motive too.
