According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 70 percent of American adults aged 20 and older are either overweight or obese.

That's indeed the case in a number of states whose residents are tipping the scales and putting themselves at risk for heart disease and high blood pressure.

As previously reported, Texas had five cities make the list of "Fattest in America" that included mainly southern cities like Dallas and Birmingham.

So did the south slim down and redeem themselves, or is obesity still on the rise?

The Huffington Post has composed a list of America's Most Obese States showing the percentage of the population that fits into that category...check it out below.

what about south carolina,georgia, virginia, north carolina,? i have relatives in those states and some of them are obese too. and their neighbors and the like. talk about southern cooking? look at these states too.

ALL southern cities!!! Glad Philly,NY,New Jersey,and the DMV, weren't on there. See,us northerns carry ourselves with grace,respect,cl*****,pride,dignity,morals,standards,and values,something southerns LACK!!!!! Wonder why the south is FULL with a HUGE obesity rate....Learn how to go to the gym like us northerms!!!! NowWhoMad................You better lay low(Nate Dogg voice)!!!!

it seems like the list is made of states with less cities or rural areas to them. I dont think north or south has anything to do with it.

Ever been to Milwaukee? Custard stands and Culvers on every other block. Nothing but Brats, cheese and beer.
But I heard that in da souf, big meals is a way of life. And who da hell would eat fried chicken and waffles wit syrup in one setting?

That's stupid and ignorant. People yall judge too much, you cannot base character on where you live, if that was true then everyone from the North is rude, has no manners, lazy, too self absorbed and gives two damns about anyone but their stinking self.
