Crooked I Speaks On Spearheading The Weekly Song Series

Kanye West’s weekly “G.O.O.D Friday” releases got some heavy media attention last year as fans awaited My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

But hip-hop fans know that Kanye wasn’t the first artist to put out music every seven days; Slaughterhouse member, Crooked I started doing weekly freestyles back in 2007 and kept it going for a year. Forbes DVD spoke with the Cali spitter about his contribution to the trend and not being fully recognized for initiating it.

“I mean, I think I definitely created a different business model for rappers to promote themselves online. It’s cool to set a trend. Sometimes you don’t get your full props or accolades, but niggas who know, know,” said Crooked I.

The former Death Row artist also spoke on his recent signing to Shady and the haters that tried to “kick him when he was down.” He mentioned those who popped up feigning friendship after inking with Eminem’s imprint. “I got a bunch of new family members but it’s cool.”
