Which Rapper Has Had The Hottest Summer?
Both figuratively and literally, 2011 has been hot this summer.
While heat waves and high temperatures have consistently kept most on the country in 100 degree weather, rappers have been releasing heat, making 2011 one of the most exciting summers in recent memory.
Though the summer isn’t over yet, here at Hip-Hop Wired we pose the question to our readers, Which Rapper Has Had The Hottest Summer?
Check the numbered pages and let us know who you think has been the hottest MC in the summer of 2011.
Rick Ross & Meek Mill
Maybach Music Group has been on fire over the last few months. After signing Pill, Wale and Meek Mill to MMG, Ricky Rozay has placed his imprint amongst the tops in the rap game.
Ross and Meek Mill’s “Tupac Back” and “I’ma Boss” have been two of the summer’s biggest street anthems, making Philly newcomer Meek Mill a rap rookie of the year candidate.
Wale and Pill haven’t seen as much success under Maybach Music, so we’ll just leave them out of this conversation for right now.
Big Sean
After a hit single “My Last” with Chris Brown, and a debut album that debuted #1 on Billboard’s US Rap Albums chart, Big Sean can say the summer of 2011 is when he was finally famous.
Nicki Minaj
She just spent her morning eating chicken and popping her boob out performing on Good Morning America, but we love her all the same.
Nicki has been touring with Lil Wayne and Britney Spears this summer, while her platinum selling single “Super Bass” steadily climbed the charts, matching his platinum debut album, Pink Friday.
Drake
Drake had been relatively quiet in 2011 until he started releasing new music online in anticipation of his upcoming sophomore album Take Care.
At the rate in which his song “Marvins Room” is being remixed by other artist, Drake’s not having a bad summer considering he doesn’t have a new album or mixtape out.
Lil Wayne
We can’t mention Nicki and Drake without mentioning their Young Money boss.
Wayne has been on his I Am Still Music Tour all summer, but his singles “6’7′” and “How To Luv” have everyone anxiously waiting for Tha Cater IV.
DJ Khaled
He’s not a rapper, but “I’m On One” goes on record as a #1 Billboard US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop song on DJ Khaled’s resume.
He should probably thank Drake, Weezy and Ross for making that possible.
Kreayshawn
She dropped a video and ended up signing a million dollar record contract.
What did you do this summer?
Bad Meets Evil (Eminem & Royce Da 5’9”)
Em and Royce teamed up and quietly dropped a #1 EP, and their single “Lighters” featuring Bruno Mars is quietly climbing the charts.
Pitbull
We tend to forget that Pitbull is a rapper, seeing as none of his music is urban, but if you look in iTunes, he’s categorized as Hip-Hop, and that’s all that matters.
Pit’s Planet Pit album didn’t sell well, but who cares when your single is 2x platinum and the #1 song in the country.
Young Jeezy
His TM101 anniversaries concerts got everyone excited about TM103. Too bad it’s not coming out until September 20th (if that date even sticks).
The Throne (Jay-Z & Kanye West)
Their album doesn’t drop for a few more days, but between their single “Otis” and an upcoming tour, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne may be the most anticipated album of 2011.
