The Scandal surrounding Penn State has dominated the headlines for several months now.  Much heralded Coach, Joe Paterno was fired, seemingly ending one of (if not) the Greatest Coaching tenures in all of Sports.

However, that was only the beginning of JoePa’s misfortunes.   Shortly after being relieved of his Penn State Head Coaching duties, it was revealed that the Coach was suffering from Lung Cancer.  As strong-willed and driven as Paterno has been, this just seemed like another stumbling block along the way for the Coach.  Wednesday’s report from SportsbyBrooks tells a story, which directly contradicts those same qualities that has made Paterno who he is.

A Source close to the situation has stated that Paterno’s health is in fact steadily declining, and went on to say the following:

“Joe is a lot closer to dying soon than the public is aware. It is very bad.”

“it (cancer) is much worse than the family has let on.”

“this may be his last Christmas.”

While these reports haven’t been confirmed by the family as of yet, it is something everyone needed to prepare for, as Paterno is 84 years old.  The rigorous treatment of Cancer is a lot for an individual that is a quarter of Paterno’s age to handle, so it is a fear many had to consider.

As a former alum, the culmination of these latest events surrounding the University couldn’t end any worse than this.  Prayerfully Coach Paterno makes it out of this situation, and can continue to fight on!
