Listen to Big K.R.I.T. enough and it becomes obvious that one of the Def Jam MC’s major influences is Memphis rap pioneers 8Ball & MJG. K.R.I.T. is also an accomplished producer and earned props for blessing Ball & G with production on their “We Buy Gold” single earlier this year.
Couple “We Buy Gold” with K.R.I.T.’s own “Money On The Floor,” featuring the rap vets, as well as 2 Chainz, and many fans wondered out loud about the possibility of the Mississipi rapper/producer handling all of 8Ball & MJG’s production. However, their schedules didn’t permit such a collaboration.
“After ‘Money On The Floor’ happened, from that point I was like man Ball, I really want to work with y’all on a project,” K.R.I.T. told Hip-Hop Wired. “We almost got started but I had to go out on the road, and I did the Smoker’s Club tour and that kind of slowed everything down [and] I had to go back and work on 4evaNaDay. But I was like, Yo, i got a record that I definitely think is for y’all’ and it was ‘We Buy Gold.’ And they knocked it out.”
