In conjunction with the United Nation's International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, a group of revelers will gather in New York City this evening to march in solidarity in support of growing public outcry regarding the tragic shooting of 17-year old Trayvon Martin in Florida.

The loosely organized “Million Hoodie March” will be taking place at Union Square between 6pm to 9pm EST. Attendees have been encouraged to wear their favorite hoodie, the same article of clothing Travyon Martin was wearing when George Zimmerman shot and killed him in a suburb just outside of Orlando during NBA All-Star Weekend.

The event has exploded onto social media platforms Facebook and Twitter, with the latter network's hashtag system displaying several variations on tonight's theme. The tags “#millionhoodies” and “#wyhwtm” have made their rounds on many timelines on Twitter, with some members of the site taking photos and videos adorned in their hoodies.

Activists such as outspoken west coast media personality Davey D has shown support of the Hoodie March and a quick click of the hashtags showing that others are joining the effort as well.

There is no official website but there is a Facebook event page is available here.

You are responsible to raise awareness for your own injustices! WHen since is someone eles cause bull***** because yours went unheard? U need to wake up! Have you ever thought that instances like these become overbearing because blacks are usually faced with injustices daily and justice is almost always never served? I dont know the case u speak of but those black kids is guaranteed jail time if they havent been convicted yet.
Now u wake up and smell the stench..I mean sunshine (sarcasm)

THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY WRONG...ALL CHILDREN MUST BE PROTECTED HOWEVER YOU FAIL TO SEE OR PERHAPS DON'T WANT TO SEE THE REALITY THAT THOSE IGNORANT BLACK CHILDREN THAT BURNED THAT WHITE CHILD IS NOT FREE AT ALL AND WILL NEVER BE (AS THEY SHOULD BE IN PRISON) UNLIKE THE HAPPY GUNMAN ZIMMERMAN, THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE! SO DON'T BE IGNORANT YOU KNOW THE REAL DEAL, I BELIEVE IN JUSTICE FOR ALL CHILDREN NO MATTER THE RACE I STAND FOR CHILDREN AND SENIORS ( THOSE THAT CANNOT DEFEND THEMSELVES) WHO DO YOU STAND FOR...JUST THOSE THAT LOOK LIKE YOU?! GROW UP

  • Robertsm3
