The Adidas sneakers with cuffs resembling slave shackles, will never see the light of day. Following public backlash, the JS Roundhouse Mid ankle-cuff model has been axed by the company.

Although they attest that the sneaker was never meant to be offensive , and "is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott's outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery," Adidas concluded that canceling the shoes would be best.

"Since the shoe debuted on our Facebook page ahead of its market release in August, Adidas has received both favorable and critical feedback." the company added. "We apologize if people are offended by the design and we are withdrawing our plans to make them available in the marketplace."

The shoe's design was inspired by the 1980s plush toy, My Pet Monster.
