A Florida DJ filed a lawsuit against Usher claiming that he created the original beat for the singer’s “Hey Daddy” single.
Aubrey Davis, also known as DJ Mixx, claims that back in 2008 he made a beat titled “Let’s Go,” and shopped it around for songwriters. Usher was given the track by a mutual contact, and the song allegedly became “Hey Daddy,” the lead single off his Raymond vs. Raymond album. The 33-year-old also copyrighted the record.Now, Davis and his lawyers–Singh, Singh & Trauben– are firing back, seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
Released in December of 2009, the song peaked in the No. 2 spot on the R&B/Hip-Hop Charts, giving Usher his third consecutive top five R&B hit.
Usher has yet to respond to the suit, but has had his fair share of legal battles, including being granted a restraining order for protection from a 26-year-old woman who has been stalking him, and is fighting over custody of his sons. The father of two is looking to settle his on-going bout with ex-wife Tameka Raymond after her 11-year-old son, Kile Glover, was injured in an accident. Glover was struck by a Jet Ski two weeks ago, and has been declared brain dead by doctors.
