Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs connects with the polarizing Danny Brown on a bass-heavy, abrasive track titled “Headfirst.” The in-your-face cut displays the veteran DJ and producer’s mastery of the dubstep sound he’s favored the past couple of years.

This isn’t your typical he’s the rapper, I’m the producer type of song and dance, by the way. DJ Muggs distorted and mixed Brown’s vocals in a way that makes them sound like complimentary instruments, rather than 16 bars.

Don’t be surprised if “Headfirst” achieves peak hour rotation at hipster events and raves, with maybe a rousing crowd surf or two in the process. The track is that much of a sensory experience, and a new soundscape for Detroit rapper Danny Brown.

“Headfirst” will appear on DJ Muggs’ forthcoming project Bass for Your Face, set to release January 15. In addition to Danny Brown, Bass for Your Face includes features from Chuck D, Dizzee Rascal, Freddie Gibbs, Roc Marciano, and many more.
