Three people are dead following a shooting at a Marine base in Quantico, Va. Thursday (March 21) night. A Marine killed his male and female colleagues before taking his own life, in what is rumored to have been a love triangle.

The male victim was shot first, then the woman. “A fatal shooting occurred at Officer Candidate School around 11 p.m. on March 21,” the Marines spokesperson confirmed. “The shooter, an active-duty Marine has been pronounced dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound by law enforcement at the scene. Two other victims, also active-duty Marines, were pronounced dead at the scene.”

All three worked at the school, and were not in line to become officers. The base was initially put on lock down, before re-opening Friday afternoon.

Officials will wait 24-hours to release the names of the deceased pending notification of family members.

“On behalf of Marine Corps Base Quantico and Officer Candidates School I want to express my sincere condolences to the families, friends, and fellow Marines of the three Marines we lost last night,” said base commander, Colonel David Maxwell.  “Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time. This is a tragic loss for our Marine Corps family.

This most recent incident is the second involving the death of Marines this week. On Monday (March 18), seven Marines died in a mortar explosion.
